I am a songwriter and producer originally from Yorkshire, but have lived in the Newcastle for many years. In the past I have worked with Universal Publishing and Sony Records and have also released material on smaller indie labels and my own label too. My work has featured on the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Radio 1, Radio 2 and 6Music. My work now centres around song writing and producing up and coming artists, writing my own artist material and teaching (private and as part of school workshops).
I am involved with TICE because I feel there is a huge gulf between jamming in the bedroom to making it on a professional level, which often deters young people from making it a serious career option. Creative Enterprise Music helps bridge this gulf. Very few purely academic courses prepare students for the real world of the music industry, like we do in TICE. The course is a clear introduction to a vibrant creative industry, which hopefully sets many students on course to a happy and fulfilling career in music. Even if this should not happen the students acquire a range of skills – musical, business and social – that can easily be applied to other disciplines. I have also found, during the past 3 years of the programme, that the particular type of student TICE attracts are by far the most talented and rewarding young people I get to work with.
